Babycham Robot Appliqué

28 Apr

Heels are pretty darn amazing. Regular readers might have noticed that we love heels here at Ooer. But as much as we think heels are an essential part of life, we do recognise that occasionally you might have to go to an event that calls for something flatter. You could, of course, refuse to go, but if you’re not inclined to turn social engagements down for asthetic reasons you need to have something in your wardrobe that’ll suit.

Babycham are a fairly new brand in the shoe market, and they’re specialising in pretty funky footwear. These are a great find. They’re called “Robot Appliqué Lace”, and they’re childishly cute and jazzy with some fab graphic motifs and incredible star shaped eyelets.

If you find the Robot Appliqué Lace sneakers as fun as we do you’ll find them at Schuh for £29.99.

Rare Floral Blazer

27 Apr

Floral prints are coming thick and fast this year, and in an amazing range of styles and colours. We like them here at Ooer so long as they’re bold and bright. None of that dainty Cath Kidston stuff here – we want to be noticed.

This jacket from Rare is incredible. It’s in-your-face rose motif and cerise edging isn’t going to be missed. With a tailored and stylish line it’s flattering to your figure too. As Rare recommend, match it with jeans and heels and you’re going to look great.

Natural Tea Drinkers Picnic Basket

27 Apr

“If you go down to the woods today you’re sure of a big surprise, for today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic.” Remember that nursery rhyme? We do here at Ooer. We imagine it would be quite surprising too, stumbling through a forest, pushing branches aside and tripping over tree roots, only to see a bunch of cuddly toys sitting around eating al fresco. Whoever makes up nursery rhymes was probably on drugs.

We can’t fault the sentiment though. A picnic is a wonderful thing. It needs to be done properly though. None of this tupperware and paper plates rubbish; we want to eat cucumber sandwiches and strawberries from good quality plates and china cups sitting in a meadow while we’re basking in the warm sun and a light breeze. PicnicShop.co.uk supply exactly the sort of hampers we’re talking about. Natural cane baskets, bone china cups, glasses and cutlery, with proper linen accessories and leather buckles. It’s all very English.

Wii Fit Plus

26 Apr

If you decided against join a gym last week when we were posting sporty recommendations we’ve got a great alternative.

Most of us have a Nintendo Wii so why not use it to keep trim and fit? Nintendo Wii Fit Plus is a fun game slash workout that means you won’t need to make the effort to get out to the gym, nor will you have to suffer the embarrassment of exercising in front of lots of much fitter people. There’s a huge range of games, from Yoga positions to strength building and aerobic exercises. There are lots of very silly games too like Super Hula Hoop (where you gyrate your hips to keep virtual hoops going) and Birdman (where you flap your arms like a virtual bird). You’ll look completely bonkers but no one will see so it’s ok.

wii fit plus

For £89.99 Wii Fit Plus is considerably cheaper than joining a gym. If you don’t have a Wii you can get a Wii bundled with Wii Fit Plus for £224.99, a saving of £25 on the separate price.

How Not To Grow Up

26 Apr

If you were watching television during the mid 90s, and you were the sort of person who enjoyed satirical sketch comedy on BBC2, then it’s likely you watched Fist Of Fun. You should hunt it down if you didn’t. It was fantastic.

One half of the Fist of Fun duo was Richard Herring. He’s a very funny stand up comic (currently touring with his ‘Hitler Moustache’ rant). And now he’s written an autobiography of sorts. “How Not To Grow Up” is a memoir of his return to childhood at the realisation that he’s fast approaching 40. It should be a great read.

Red Lip Gloss Lips Print

25 Apr

It’s been a weekend of shopping for things for our houses here at Ooer. First we had the phones, then the shoe boxes, and we’re finishing off with some gorgeous art.

This “Lip Gloss” print is exactly the sort of thing we think the modern home needs. It’s bold and fresh, it’s sexy and sassy, and it’s a huge amount of fun. As art goes it’s not very expensive either. Of course, art is a contentious and subjective topic, so this might not be your preference. Fret not though! Infusion Art have literally thousands of different images to choose from. There’ll be something there that suits you.

Laura Ashley Shoe Boxes

25 Apr

Remember that shoe rack we posted the other day? We’re still thinking about shoe storage at the Ooer office. It’s close to our hearts. They’re so precious and they need to be kept nicely. We can’t be doing with kicking them off into a corner or under the bed. No, shoes must be stored properly.

These Laura Ashley shoe boxes are a great home storage idea. They’re pretty and practical at the same time. The floral print boxes are sophisticated and chic, hopefully to match the shoes you’ll want to keep in them, and they’re fastened with a very pretty ribbon tie. On the functional side of things there’s a very sensible window so you can see which shoes are in each box. Plus, they fold completely flat when you’re not using them. That’s much better than the shoe boxes you get from shoe shops.

Normally £35.00 but less than half price at the moment at £15.75 you can snag these flat pack shoe boxes from lauraashley.com.

Vintage Telephone

24 Apr

Modern life is rubbish. Blur said that, in the title of one of their albums. It’s a really good album actually. That’s besides the point though. The sentiment that modern times aren’t as good as old is what Damon Albarn was talking about. We’re not sure we agree with him, but there are some things that were definitely better back in the olden days, and telephones are one of them.

We can’t actually remember the last time any of us used the telephone in our houses. Home phones are a thing of the past. This got us thinking though. If we don’t use the phone, we don’t need a practical, functional, ugly looking thing sitting in the hall any more. We can have something that looks great instead. IWantOneOfThose.com have the exact thing we mean – a retro phone. It’s got the old fashioned rotary number dial, the heavy handset, the hold-the-back-and-walk-around base. It’s got it all. It’s so much cooler than any modern phone.
